It’s no doubt that 2014 is going to be a year of ‘firsts’ for me. Not only will it be my first time living in Vancouver, but it will also be my first time running a half marathon.
If I can just preface this by saying the idea of running more than 5km is daunting to me, so this will no doubt be one of the biggest physical and mental challenges I will have ever put myself through. I have no set time I want to run it in… I just want to finish it. That’s it.
I decided to register for the SeaWheeze Half Marathon which takes places in Vancouver and is the perfect positive environment for a first time runner like myself:
I’m so incredibly lucky to have supportive friends and co-workers who have offered to help mentor and train me through the process. It makes the world of difference knowing I’ll have supporters at the finish line.
Here’s to another crazy adventure, and many months of (gruelling) training.
If you have any running tips, I’m all ears!
Alicia you could totally do it! Just pace yourself and keep breathing. I’m hoping to marathon my way around the world and you’re right – that’s the best way to go after it – forget numbers, just aim for the finish line. It’ll be such a rewarding experience!
Best of luck! I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine :)
I haven’t tried a marathon. So, you’re so way a head of me. :))
Running a half marathon is extremely challenging. It you can run that much several times, you’re in excellent physical condition!
Just that… running too much can hurt joints and muscles. Gotta be careful with the effort.
